Extract...ehh
Extract had very good potential for being a smart funny comedy. It had a more in depth story than the gross-out or vicious humor that is very popular right now. And it had a certain flow to the movie instead of just random funny scenes. The problem though is they didn't use the talent and story very well. I think Mike Judge is still trying to use his "Office Space" success to sell this movie. It had it's moments and good small laughs in there but just didn't connect as well as it should have. The cast I thought was good and had solid performances but could have used them way better and they were kind of all forgettable. I thought the story was a good idea but the writing could have been more clever to utilize the story and characters better. They didn't use the talent of J.K. Simmons has at all. He had maybe one scene where I really noticed him. Mila Kunis was just kind of there when she could have had a more creative part. Basically they all played there parts as well as they could have, just some seemed out of place like they should have been in a slapstick comedy and the others fit this type of comedy. To put it simple, "Extract" lacks the strength of plot, relatability and character development that Judge's previous works have had. It's a mediocre comedy that is best saved for a DVD rental
